Over the last couple of years myPetersfield has been a lot of fun. It's identified what we still believe to be the best in eating, drinking, consuming, shopping and, well, just living in the Greater Petersfield area. It's attracted over 500 regular newsletter subscribers (who have been singularly ill-served in 2008) and over 25,000 visits. By any standards, that's not too shameful. But all good things come to an end. The more eagle-eyed among our readership will have spotted that updates slowed to a trickle this year, the listings disappeared and the celebrated newsletter dried up altogether. The site has become immobile, slowly losing currency and gathering dust. How did this happen? Well, put simply, if not proudly, the muse departed. The novelty of the site wore off, the creative wells dried up and editorial resource, always stretched, finally snapped. Or to put it less dramatically, started to find more interesting things to do. The final straw was applied by Microsoft (warning - this is the science bit). When Microsoft finally withdrew support for its widely-derided (though-it-seemed-OK-to-us) website editor thingy, FrontPage, your editor decided he couldn't be bothered learning a new tool; learning the first one had been grievous enough and really, life was too short. At the same time, he decided that he was bored of the website format, tired of spending a lot of money on webspace and url fees and all that malarky, and that there had to be a cheaper, nay free-er way forward. So the good news is that out of the ashes of myPetersfield rises the phoenix which is <drum roll> wikipetersfield, one of they new-fangled blog things which will maintain (indeed carry forward) the best of the myPetersfield reviews, add in some more personal stuff, and open its doors to a more interactive experience than ever seemed possible with the website. In fact, it's there already. Feel free to log in, read, add comments and contributions and who knows, it could be a more dynamic way of supporting the excellent, indeed, ever-improving area in which we live. You can even sign up for regular updates. Now I ask you - what could be more exciting than that? Thanks for all your support over the last couple of years. See you at the new place.... |
